Food For Thought
The world of Big Thinkers

Bone Acumen = Skeletal Knowledge = Common Sense

Nothing is more powerful then an idea that’s time has come. And one is the power to finally share and build on our ideas at profound levels. People have a right to be educated and share in working on solutions and share in the rewards of a better existence.

A number of catch 22s exist in our world; education, politics, and economics are tools in a relevance crisis. Religion and spirituality are also at odds.

Is the average person passionate about their lives and endeavors? Do people think they count and are valued in the bigger context of the local community? Do they care? Are they afraid to ask for, or would never expected support.

Please, assist people who are engaged in solutions and be aware of the options available. Never assume you are right if others have a different culture and/or set of experiences. Meet what is genuinely required. Seek out and listen to the engaged leaders and mentors, and be yourself engaged.

Change is for sure, so be aware of the options that face you in your endeavors. Change can be elusive, and can happen at unpredictable intervals. We must build frameworks of support to recognize and aide in its 'better' formation.

We must avoid short-term gain and resetting of issues and compromising on individual values and rights.
- daunting task don't you think.

Desiderata

Desiderata is Latin for "Things to be Desired."

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
Wonderful Message by George Carlin possibly inspired after his wife passed away. WK?

The paradox of our time in history is that we have

taller buildings
but shorter tempers,
wider freeways,
but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more,
but have less,
we buy more,
but enjoy less.

Free Rice
I found a website freerice.com that merits mention. Anyone who is able to read this could really make a difference. My family has, will yours?

Participants donate rice to the hungry and grow their vocabulary at the same time. The person who made the site has struck a grand slam with this idea. The site is well thought out, well designed and is an example of how we can preform modern day magic.

You match a word with one of four choices. Each correct match puts twenty little grains of rice in a bowl. The difficulty level goes with each correct answer to keep you challenged. A wrong answer will decrease the difficulty. The bowl of rice and the vocabulary score are the two things that keep you engaged, and presents two ways to measure your efforts.

On a lazy afternoon my family donated over 45000 grains and laughed at definitions. A great opportunity of quality family fun describing terms and laughing at the spontaneous flow. The freerice.com FAQ helped us figure out that we donated over 900 grams of rice because 48 grains weights 1 gram. One person eats about 400 per day.

The FAQ mentions some massive donations that are actually happening. The statistics they site are impressive. The site links to the World Food Programme WFP video of free rice being donated. There is a YouTube video highlighting the program and has a clip of the creator and software developer describing his masterpiece.

Bleak meal, but I am glad to lend the support so that someone will benefit. My daughter asked, what if everyone played, would that feed them all? Made me think, after all, if something sounds too good to be true, it may be. I wounder what limits the advertisers have in funding the potential of everyone playing. I wonder if there is a over spill of donations that are not used, or if there could be a back log owing.
